One of our friends lent us a dishwasher. Not that we're allowed to have one, but we've got it. We've only done one load, but it was so nice to be able to wash dishes like that... no more glasses or plastic for me!! (those are clearly the most hated items to hand wash). That and the fact that it gives us more counter space as well as somewhere to put the dishes that have not been washed yet... by adding an appliance, my kitchen just got bigger. ;-)
The thought that makes me sad though? We'll be returning it in like 6 weeks. *sigh* What we'll have to do is replace the void left by the dishwasher with a house. Let the house hunting (that we can afford) begin!
That is one of my favorite "luxuries" too.
ReplyDeleteIf you're still living in an apartment building there's a few reasons why they don't like you to use dishwashers. The bigges problem is that it causes the hot and cold water to mix in yours and your neighbours apartments. My building has pretty big issues with this. Apartments are not made to handle dishwashers, and therefore having one can cause quite a few problems with the plumbing.
ReplyDeleteHuh? How can it cause hot and cold water to mix?
ReplyDeleteAnyways, that's not possible with the setup that I've got: it's a sink attached dishwasher. I can no more "mix hot and cold" now than I could before.
I think the bigger problem is that if your rent includes hydro, then running the dishwasher can cost your landlord more money, since he/she is paying for the electricity.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure how it actually mixes the water. Maybe it's just a scare tactic to stop us from using dishwashers and using more utilities than they want us to. I think it has something to do with attaching different things up to your sink faucet causes it to act differently than it usually does.
