I've been playing around with different types of coffee, different brewing ways (drip, french press, "pod", store bought) and I've found that there is only one thing that really "makes" a coffee for me: using cream and not milk. 1% milk just doesn't cut it.
In restaurants out east they had 18% cream. Wow, did those coffees taste good. I bought coffee cream the other day from loblaws and it's only 10% and it was much better than using milk, but still not super. Here 18% is whipping cream. Mmmm...
Will I keep cream in the fridge just for making coffee? Sure. I think that my happiness is worth that. ;-)
I used to use Sealtest Half and Half (10%) ... now I use milk (2%) to cut down on the old fat content.

From that link, I think that I fall under the category of "lovers of mellow, full bodied coffee". ;-)
ReplyDeleteGo 18%!
I also love the 18% cream. Although I'm not sure where you buy your milk products. Everywhere I shop 10% is called "half and half" (half cream, half 2%), and cream is 18%. Whipping cream is 35%. You should be able to find coffee cream in most stores.
ReplyDeleteFor the fat conscious there's also light cream, which I think weighs in at 6%.
Anyway, I'd like to say that real men drink their coffee black. I usually only add cream or sugar when I go out for coffee and the coffee sucks. At home, I almost always drink it black, no cream, no sugar. It took me a little getting used to, but I definitely prefer it better this way now that I've been drinking it for a while. Good coffee should taste good on it's own, without having to add sugar and milk to get rid of the actual coffee taste.
"I like my sugar with coffee and cream!"
ReplyDeletehahaha... that's what I was thinking too. :-D
ReplyDeleteAs for just drinking it black, I've tried that a couple of times and just don't find it worth it. I think that I enjoy the cream more than the coffee. ;-P
There are some coffees I prefer to drink black, like espresso. If I'm drinking a premium regular brewed coffee I'll tend not to drown it in so much sugar and creme, to let the flavour come through. If it's the cheap stuff, I'm just after the caffiene, really.
ReplyDeleteA lot of the time I find you only have to "tweak" a drink with a little bit of sugar and cream. No drowning...
ReplyDeleteI hear you guys about drinking it black. That's the way I usually drink my latte or cappuccino. ;-)
