Exactly what I want - but not

I've been bitching about wanting a smart phone for a while, but not wanting the huge bill. I want the "surf anywhere" functionality but I could not care less about the phone part. I hate talking on the phone. I avoid it whenever I can. The 3G iPad with it's data-only-plan is exactly what I want - except it's way too big. I want it iphone sized. So, so close.

Having said that, I'm expecting that when the iphone 4g or whatever it's called comes out, I'll go pick that up and return my friend's phone back to him. Goodbye 100 $ / year plan, hello 60 $ / month plan. Boooo!

  1. You might want to check out Wind Mobile and Mobilicity. They are 2 new carriers that arose out of the spectrum auction. I just signed up with Wind Mobile, and I couldn't be happier. Wind has a $15 voice plan, and you could add on a data plan to that for $20 (500 MB) or $35 for infinite (5 GB throttled afterward), which includes tethering. Only downside is these rates are only valid in the city, and you pay extra for roaming outside their city sized network. May or mey not work well for you.

  2. Thanks for the info.
I checked out Mobilicity but it looks GTA only.
When looking at Wind, I have 2 issues with it in it's current form:
1)their coverage is so small I wouldn't be able to visit my family in the west end without roaming or totally leaving the coverage area.
    2) I don't like any of the phones
Their open plans, that's awesome though.
At this point I figure I'll get an iphone when the next gen comes out - I just have to shop around for which company will give the best deal.
