  2. "van houtte", I'll have to try that sometimes.
I just know if there was a Tim's in my building I'd be a much poorer, twitcher, but happy person.

  3. In related news. I got my first Starbucks card today. It's on the way to work, so I go there pretty much every morning. They have good coffee. Nice that they change up the flavour a couple times a week too.

  4. Aren't you guys worried about turning into the computer-programming, coffee-drinking, shower-avoiding, fat-ass drone that most coders turn into? You already have 2 of the 4 qualifications. Now all you have to do is trade showers for Big Macs and you're set.
Coffee is bad for you. It's like cigarettes. Why do you even touch it? Sure it gets you up for a little while, but then it just throws you down even further until you're dependent on it, like the nicotine in cigarettes. It's not bad once in a while, but if it's part of your routine, then you have a problem. Anything "the American (ahum, United Statesian) way" means "the bad way".
You should check this song out. It's pretty good. Here are the lyrics, which i'm sure you'll appreciate:
    LAGWAGON - "Mr. Coffee"
    Morning has broken
    Mr. Coffee has spoken
    The familiar wake-up call
    Sings to my ears
I wake up with a shrug
To the floor with a thud
Where in this hellhole is my coffee mug?
I can now face the day
On legal speed (The American way)
    I'm sketching
    I'm seizin
    I'm spazing
    I'm shaking
I can not stop spilling on my brand new shirt
    I-I-I'm wired
    I'm so inspired
    I drank the entire pot
    So off to work
Here I come to save the day
On legal speed (The American way)
    Drinking coffee
    I drink coffee
    Drinking coffee everyday

  5. The key with any vice is moderation, right? Alcohol, cigarettes, caffeine, just about any drug, vitamins, extreme sports, fast driving, sitting around all day, and the list goes on and on
There are a few vices that could kill you immediately, but many take years and years of *abuse*, not use. If you're really concerned figure out the risk and make decisions based on medical research.
Coffee, for example, was just recently shown to increase the chance of cancer for those that drink 4 cups or more a day. I drink one cup a day. Am I concerned? Not really.
I mean, you *could* cut everything bad out of your diet. You could be a vegan and live on a island with no polution or cars or bungee jumping platforms and live a contented life. But most vices are enjoyable (if only temporarily), so that's why we do 'em. Maybe that makes us weak minded, but who cares really?

  6. I think that it's funny how my moment of publically expressed frustration at my coffee cup being empty has sparked such a conversation.
Such is the nature of blogs I guess.

  7. While it's not an overly huge effect, there's actually some evidence that caffeine (in small amounts) can help decrease the risk of Parkinson's disease...
Give green tea a try if you must have a caffeine fix. The caffeine in green tea (and maybe regular tea as well, but I'm not sure about that) is different from coffee and has a different effect on the body... there's no "crash and burn" syndrome after consumption.

  8. With coffee I'm noticing much less "crash and burn" than Coca-Cola (I'm a recovering Coke-aholic), probably because there's much less sugar in coffee.
    Sugar lows are pretty brutal.

  9. I have a box at home, so maybe I'll try that out.
    Thanks Champ. ;-)

  10. Yeah, i'm pretty sure that the cola crash-and-burn is due to the sugar. McDonald's food is really high in sugar (carbs) and it has the same effect, as i'm sure you've seen in 'Super Size Me'.

  11. Does anyone else find that green tea tastes like popsicle sticks?

  12. I find it funny that Scott gets on our backs for drinking Coffee, yet frequently drinks diet pop with aspartame which is thought to cause cancer.

  13. hahaha... no, I don't find that green tea tastes like that at all...
Humm... but now I am wondering. I'll have to think about that next time I have a cup. Weird.

  14. Looks like some popsicle sticks are made of birch:

Don't know if they all are, but they've all tasted the same to me. I'd guess that toothpicks are made out of the same wood -- they taste the same to me too. Could very well be wrong though. :)
