Things like this scare me when biking. I usually am wearing pretty bright clothings with a bunch of reflectors. Next I think I need a flashing light on the front to be seen not just by cars, but by other bikers. With the costs of gas constantly going up, I don't think that there will be a shortage of people biking to work this year.
As a cyclist, I can say for sure that a lot of drivers aren't on the lookout for cyclists. When riding your bike, always assume that nobody else can see you. Same with when you're driving. Assume everyone else is a terrible driver. Don't assume that anybody will stop at a red light, or obey any other traffic rule. I don't bike at night very much, so I don't use my lights very much, but I guess even in day, it would help a lot. It's the same reason cars have daytime running lights.
