Change ATM

I would really love to have a change ATM. You go up, swipe your card, and dump in a handful (or more) change. It sorts it, and adds the money to your account. All done. At this point I have a big pile of change and I don't feel like rolling it. *sigh* Ah well.

Update: Woa... I saw on Canada AM this morning how they are putting in machines just like I said. I found an easier to read story at Canada Business. At 9.8% fee, it's a bit steep, but cheaper than rolling your own and then going to the bank. And another weird thing? Aleks is sort-of right: we'll be able to do laundry (dry cleaning), banking and groceries all at the same place...

Freaky. Just like in Sphere... I just have to think about it, and it becomes true, even if it happened in the past!! The power, the ultimate power!!! Bwahahahahaha!!!

  1. I would like the reverse machine. I would like to put in my bank card, and be able to get out rolls of coins. I realize that they have change machines already, but they are pretty rare, and only take bills as payment. It's always a pain to stand in line at the teller in order to get change. If they got rid of this, I would lose my last reason for going to see a bank teller.

  2. I'd like a bank card machine. You put in your bank card and it gives you more bank cards. :)

  3. Ryan: Oie...
Kibbee: Why do you want lots of change? For laundry? In that case wouldn't it be better to just have a machine that you can swip your debit card to run the machine? Or have a system where you can load money onto a "wash card" and use that?

  4. Jim, both your solutions are great, but actually require that company running the washing machines make some kind of upgrades to them. My idea only requires that the bank (who is already in the business of supplying people with change), make changes to their system. It could be useful for other uses than laundry. Many small businesses need change in their registers, and currently the only option is to actually go to a teller when you want change. This would work a lot better if it was an automated system.

  5. I think we should be able to do our laundry at the bank. Groceries too.
