On my way to work today I was biking along on the paint like normal. The only problem was that a car decided to turn right... right into me. Luckily they noticed as I was yelling louder and louder and had my body / bike pressed up against the side of their car.
I'm happy that they didn't turn quickly or that I wasn't going too fast. I'm still not sure what exactly went wrong or who was at fault. I'm just happy that no one got hurt... especially me.
*sigh* I'd love wide bike lanes with a curb separating cars from bikes.
Sounds like you want to move to The Netherlands :)
ReplyDeleteAs more people bike to work to save money, I wouldn't be surprised if there's pressure to make more bike lanes and paths.
Could always be worse...

Move to Portland, OR, downtown especially. You actually get bike lanes here... ...and generally people here drive much more cognitive than in other places.
ReplyDeleteI see that Portland was ranked by wired as the 2nd most bike friendly cities. Pretty impressive.

Truthfully, Ottawa's not *that* bad for people being on bikes. There's a lot of paths, but those can have a downside as well. If you're commuting it's faster to be on the roads, where the drivers are usually paying more attention than people walking on the paths.
It's a mixed bag and I just get bitchy when I get pushed by a car. :-/
