Sick. :-(

This really sucks. On my second last day of work, I am home sick. *sigh* Which really means that I wasn't feeling well on wednesday either. So, my co-op report that I expected to hand to my boss on Tuesday still isn't done. Shitty. I hope that I am okay for going to work tomorrow, but at this point, it looks 50-50.

I even had a cool idea for AudioMan that I wanted to try out today, but I just couldn't get around to. Hopefully I will have a chance to do it this weekend.

Home early? Again?

I was sent home early again today. Not that I am complaining. ;-) This time it was because of a virus within the building, and the lan people isolated the sub nets where there was an infected computer. So that means they didn't allow us to us IP at all. So, for web maintenance guys, who ssh and whatnot everywhere, this was a problem. And they took off the network shared drives too. What fun!

So, let's recap. A power outage in my building on Wednesday. The power outage that affected 50 million people on Thursday though a week later including Friday, and now a worm. I am supposed to be training the new student, but it's kind of hard with just pen and paper. Ah well. It'll give me some time to work on my co-op report.

Buz the tower? What tower?

I don't know how many people knew, but there was an air show in Carp this weekend. Which means that my house has air planes flying around all the time (since if you live near Carp, you are near the airport.) My folks went over to my brothers place yesterday and watched it from their back deck. It scared the crap outta my niece when the Snowbirds buzzed the house.

It looks like I will have to find another way to make backups. I thought that keeping things on CD's would be fine. I was actually planning to do so. I thought that they would degrade over like 15-20 years. Apparently not. So, now I have to figure out a good way to keep data long term, hopefully read only so that viruses can't eat it. Right now I am just relying on hard drive spaces, but I am going to keep digital images, that will get eaten up quickly.

I am thinking about getting another backpack. I just never feel that my bag protects my computer enough, and most of the other bags are either really expensive, ass-ugly, or non-backpacks. I just have to actually got to go toMEC to check it out. I'll add that to my todo list, right after getting my car looked at for all those damn recall notices and getting them to turn off that stupid "check engine" light.

Almost started

I have almost started my co-op report. Almost. This blog is another stalling technique. I find that it works quite well. Perhaps a little too well. Ah well. I am sure that the panic will set in any day now and I'll be able to get it done for monday. Maybe.

I just read an email that my boss had sent on monday saying how he expected that everyone will be in work tomorrow. Oups. I felt really bad about that. Ah well. I was checking the web and the news to see if I was supposed to go back, but it didn't say that my building was open. Which sort of sucked because my planned 10 km run was for tomorrow. But my shoes are at work, so I have not been able to run all this week. :-( I really wish that I had the forsight to have brough them home, but I had no idea that it would take a week to get the power back on to the levels that it is normally at.

Last weekend I was at the cottage for the first family get together. It was lots of fun. My brother has two tubes now, and we had the big boat there. My cusin took many pictures, so that's good. AND I swam across the lake, which is a first for me. Fun was had by all. I am already looking forward to next year's event.

My friend Lisa just got engaged. Wow. Sort of scarry... friends and family that are my age are getting married. Woha. When did I get old? It is a month less a day till I turn the big two-three. It's a prime age to be. hahahaha...

One thing that I wanted to post a while ago was my friend Liz's pictures of her "weekend trips". (check out the picture that starts "Elisabeth"). I guess that is all you have to do when you live in the mountians in Europe. *sigh* I wish that I was there.

It looks like I will have to get a new version of trillian soon. It looks like MS will restrict access to MSN for third party sw. I just hope that I will not have to go back to using the MSN client. It's ugly and has ads, and doesn't have all the features that I like / want. Ah well.

Oh-oh. My folks are back. I better make it look like I am working on school stuff.

Hot, hot, hot.

I think that today was much too hot to run. I did it anyways. It felt great. Betty and I were running with a guy who has to keep his heart rate under 150 bpm for health reasons, so today was nice and slow. Sometimes it can be frustrating to run at the slower pace, but other times good. They guy seems to be fairly high up in his position, and has some great stories.

One thing that I have to do when I get home (other than help my dad roll up tents) is to make sure that my MS computers are all up to date. I don't want the lastest worm to be on any of those computers. Well, duh. That is why I have left the automatic update feature turned on on my XP box. I'd actually rather it download stuff in the background than me have to explictly say "okay". I was all against it at first, but I have come around. *sigh* I am becoming a MS whore. Ah well. My *nix skills are not up to where they need to be right now. That is one thing that I should get done soon, my linux box up and running. I feel like an outcast here sometimes 'cause I don't have a box that I can ssh into. Mind you, my dad probably wouldn't let me leave it on connected to the net all the time. For me to have that then, I will have to wait till I am out of the house. I am hoping that will happen within the next year.

No power == no work

At work today the power went off. Yes, somehow the whole area around my work lost power on a bright sunny day. Probably too many people using air conditioning and it overloaded Ontario Hydro. But today did have a good side to it. It has allowed me to get a renewal of my drivers licence and heath card, which I bitched about earlier. I was actually impressed. It was only about 30 minutes for each, and I didn't have any of the forms that they had mailed to me, and not even the "required" documentation for the health card. I was quite happy that I was able to get that over with. I was thinking that I would have to try and squize it in on Sept. 2nd or 3rd, but I was able to do this now. Yay! Now I just have to get the damn "check engine" light turned off in my car (which is going to be at least 80 $ for them to just look at it). *sigh*

One thing that I can now do is work on my co-op report and finish reading an article that Ryan pointed out.

AhhGGG!

Sometimes I just so pissed off I could just scream. Ahhggg!! I know that most of my work right now isn't challenging at all. I know that people are stupid. *sigh* I just get frustrated anyways. I have a ticket now (and I get all the bitch ticket's 'cause I am "UI" which means text changes) and the complaint is that in a page, the address pointing to their site is something like http://www.someurl.org and they want the www removed because it is "wrong" and they have gotten a customer complaint! Yes, I can understand how you would want to take something that is actually correct and make it not as correct. Grrr.... I just don't like those sort of things at the end of the day. Stupid freaking shit. I don't mind the annoying shit when it's just static html and I can go through the whole heavy process in 15 minutes, but not for other things like java apps or this old system (that we don't support anymore) but we still support. Go figure.

Lumumba

I watched Lumumba on Firday with Laura. It was one of the Sparks Street free movies. It was very interesting. I had never heard of it before, but I guess that is because it is an african film (in French) about a political leader. Not what most people would call "main stream". I think that it was a very good movie though. It helped me realize just how bloody and burtal social uphevial in Africa has been. Now I understand the words in the Billy Joel song We DidnĂt Start The Fire where he says "Belgians in the Congo". This is why I am trying to read things that are considered classics like Plato's Apology. So many references thoughout our lives to things that we don't know. Our brains just skim over them without realizing it. Hopefully one day I will understand most references. Or at least some. ;-)

Forms, forms, forms...

I don't like filling out forms. Now I just got a whole pile in the mail. One from U o O asking what type of diploma I want (should I get the big one for an extra 70 $?); one from the Ontario Ministry of Tranportation getting me to renew my drivers licence; and one to get me to renew my health card. *sigh* I guess this is what I get for finishing school at the same time (more or less) as I turn the big two-three. I would like to think of this comming year as the prime of my life. Prime. As in prime number. As in 23. hahahahaha... Oh, I am so funny, I was forced to laugh. ;-)

Before anyone comments that "forms are a part of life", I just want to say I know, I know...

Ready to run

It looks like it will be another hot one today. And today we are going to a longer run again. Probably around 8 or 9 km. We don't want to exceed what we did last week by more than 20 minutes, so it'll probably be just under an hour. I am a little anxious, but I get that way about a lot of things. *sigh*

One thing that Scott pointed out was how U of O is now going to ban and enforce smoking around enterences. I am glad that they are doing this, but I wonder just how much is about people's health, and how much is it about it looking like the school cares about people's health while they find a new way to generate revenue. Kibbee pointed out that with the density of U of O's campus, this is almost effectivly banning smoking everywhere. I don't really see that as a bad thing, but whatever. Everyone has their vices. I have mine. ;-)

Ah well, I'd better get back to work.

JimboJones, back on the air

Well, things are back to *normal* with the blog. There was some trouble, but it looks like it is fixed now.

I have not been up to too much lately, but some how really, really busy. I don't understand it. At this rate I will be going back to school and relaxing. Somehow I don't think that is how it will go, but who knows. I think that I will a bit busy right at the start of school, going to some things with Laura where you can bring a friend (semi-formal). I just have to make sure that I don't act like a total nut. Ah well. I hope that this semister will not be *too bad*, but you never know. I will not have had this few courses (5) since first semister. I figure that my time will be eaten up somehow though.

I have been training up for my 10 km run at the end of August. Last Friday we (Betty and I) ran for about 46 minutes, with total stoppage around 3 minutes. We figure that we did about 7 km. This Friday we are planning on doing around 50-55 minutes. I figure that to run 10 km, it will take about an hour, maybe a little more. I think that I am on course to fo it, I just think that I have to get some new clothes, things that are not pure cotton.
