Red is the colour of happiness

Just a quick entry 'cause I'm really tired and going to go for a nap. I picked up a Necky Eskia kayak today (make sure to mouse over the 3/4 view and top view to see it all). Not only did I pick up that boat (jpg), but I also got a pump, throw bag, paddle, and a skirt, and a couple of foam blocks for the roof racks (which I don't have) for my car. There are a couple more things that I would like to get before doing any tripping (like a paddle float). And I have to get a paddling jacket, but that wasn't as required as the other things today.

It was a boat used for rentals, so it's slightly banged up, but not too much. Does anyone know if there's a good way to smooth out minor scrapes on a plastic boat? If there is then I could make is an smooth as a baby's butt. ;-)

The seat is really cool... it's got a air pump that you can inflate and make it more comfy. Pretty cool... Now I just need a garage to put it in. :-P

  1. Nice boat...
Let me know how it goes
you don't necessarily need a roof rack.. my dad used to put the canoe up on the roof all the time. just a couple styrofoam blocks for padding, a couple ropes from the front, a couple ropes from the back.. that's all it took. Should work well with a kayak too.

  2. Hey Jim, Couldn't you use the type of fill that is used to fixed gouged skis/snowboards for fixing your kayak's dings?

  3. I have the same exact boat on the top of my car (yellow tho), rented it form trailhead for a kayaking weekend.
All I can say is good choice! :)
    Cheers,

  4. PS.
I'd get a roof rack, that kayak is a little heavy for smaller cars. I tried it straight on the roof and I wasn't happy with all the bending.

  5. James: I'll look into that and see if that will do it. Do you know what that stuff is called by any chance?
As for a roof rack, I was going to just go with the foam blocks. But then I started to measure things. My roof is only 4 feet glass to glass. The kayak is 16 feet long. That's going to be a LONG distance and a big possibility for twisting, especially since my roof is very smooth without any drip rails.
So, at this point I think I'll just get roof racks. Plus, it'll make it easier if I want to take a bike or two along too! ;-)

  6. Yes, my roof dents with just teh foam blocks unless you are RIGHT on the support bars underneath. Nice boat though! Can't wait to use mine this week!

  7. hee hee... thanks. ;-)
Tonight I went out to crappy tire and bought some roof racks... It got too dark before I got a chance to install them, so I think that's tomorrow. Maybe tomorrow I'll go to MEC and get a life jacket. We'll see. ;-)

  11. Don't blame 'you being a nerd and having file extensions on your mind all the time' with 'dyslexia'. You're insulting the dyslexics.
