I just read a really
interesting thing on
slashdot about how
Matrix like interfaces are being tested on people as we speak. I thought that this was pretty scarry and cool at the same time. Right now they are only going to be listening from commands from the brain, but I wonder if they will be able to "teach" like they do in the Matrix. And if people started to have those, how could you compeate with them? To keep your job, you'd have to get one just so that if something new came up, you could learn it instantly. Kind of scarry, but I guess it might just be "normal" soon enough.
Almost like (also a
/. story) there won't really be punch cards anymore, just hand scanners.
Listening to: Tool - Schism
"So far it works for monkeys and they'd like to see it as viable for quadriplegics and others in need."
ReplyDeleteI bet that's all that they want to do with it...how long before they decide to implant one in everyone's held? We'd all be human robots.
That's a thought.
Something to keep in mind. Have you ever just had the knack for picking something up and pretty much understand what has to be done to accomplish a certain activity? If you never practice this talent do you become an expert at it? Not really (yes there is always a but... 'but' FDAT). So people can learn really quickly but it doesn't mean that they will be good at it...Also you can always fall back on natural stupidity. Excellence = Expertise/(Natural Stupidity)
ReplyDelete;)
Yes, you can always go back on natural stupidity (there never seems to be a shortage of that), but I think that learning is a HUGE overhead for any activity.
ReplyDeleteMy proof: I just finished what you can call grade 17. And many people are still going to do more. If I could have done all of university in four months (for example), then I would have been like 4 years ahead of where I am today. I would have been able to buy my dream kayak(s) by now!
School is a transfer of knowledge. It doesn't make anyone an expert in anything. If there was a more efficient way of doing things, I am sure that many people will take it thinking of short term goals (like putting food on the table), not long term things like turning our whole race into robots / borg / cyborgs / whatever.
And I am not done learning now that I have left school. I think that the day I stop learning is going to also be my last day alive.
