And thoughts of kayaks danced in his head...

One thing that I have wanted to get for years has been a kayak. My brothers know this, and just tonight he pointed one at Canadian Tire to me. I don't think that I want one like that. I want a longer sea kayak. Mec has a couple. But I think that I will only get one that's used. Something that I can afford more. After going to the boat show, I was told to check out Rideau Canoe Club, 'cause they have a sale April 8th & 9th. I really think that I'll be going to that event. I just hope that they have something nice, that I fit in. It's not a thing that you want to buy on a whim.

One thing that I was thinking about tonight is when am I going to make the time to go boating more? I'd love to be close to water somewhere and be able to go after work, but I don't see myself living that close to the Ottawa or another body of water for a while. I could go yakking in my ditch, but it gets boring 'cause it's pretty narrow, straight, and the scenery doesn't change too much. Plus the portaging would get tiring after a while... ;-)

I know you're on a budget, but if you plan to do some major trips at some point in the future, go for fiberglass or kevlar... makes a WORLD of difference!
We'll have to do another trip this summer, maybe not as far away as Lake Superior though. ; )

  2. When you're comparison shopping, fiberglass = polyethylene... just FYI.

  3. Thanks for the fyi champ.
The guy at the boat show manning the Canoe Club booth suggested that I "get a cheaper used boat, for 850 (if I'm lucky) to 1200 $, play around with that for a couple of years. Play around with other peoples boats. Then, after about 6 years after, but a *real* boat"
I thought that this was really good advice. I want to make sure that I don't just jump into the deep end (pun intended).
The boat you linked to is on for $3395 at Trailhead. I don't think that I want to dish out that kind of cash right now.
Besides, even if I get a cheaper boat and don't use it, it will stay in the family and be used by others at the cottage etc. ;-) Hell, it could be the "beer kayak". :-D

  5. ya, I guess that's what a canoe is for... ;-)
I figure that two boats are better than one. It's more fun to go with someone. Either way, it would be used. And if you are learning, sometimes it's better not to use a nice boat. One that is a little more "rock friendly". ;-)
